Situated 1300-1425 m high on the slopes of Mount Gede-Pangrango,
Cibodas Botanic Garden contains beautiful mountain scenery with impressive views across the Cipanas valley of West Java. The
Garden covers about 125 ha of undulating topography, with large grassy expanses, rocky coniferous areas, and valleys filled
with tree ferns and waterfalls. Cibodas Botanic Garden is a popular recreational center for the Greater Jakarta area as well
as a research station for students and scientists studying tropical montane flora. is the best base for hikes to waterfalls
& tea plantations. Close to Cibodas is Cipanas is best known for its’ hot springs. Among the mountains in West Java,
the twin volcanoes Gede-Pangrango are very famous for hiking and mountain climbing. There are 4 trails to go up to the summits
of of the mountains; two trails are from Cibodas, one from Gunung Putri and another one from Selabintana, Sukabumi. Climbing
the mountains and watching the sunrise from the top or the crater wall of Gunung Gede are the most exciting attractions for
visitors.
The Indonesian Botanic Gardens are comprised of four Botanic
Gardens - Bogor and Cibodas in West Java ( the oldest and most well-known), Purwodadi in East Java, and Eka Karya in Bali.
Over the 180 years of the history of Bogor Botanic Garden there have been many major contributions to science, agriculture,
conservation and environmental education.
